Aftercare Instructions:

For aftercare, you will need the following items:

non-scented antibacterial handsoap (orange Dial handsoap) and a moisturizing ointment such as Aquaphor- no perfumed or alcohol based scents as this will irritate your fresh tattoo.

  • If bandaged with a second-skin bandage, do not remove for 3-5 days after tattoo application- the only exception is if the bandage itself is damaged and exposing the tattoo- remove bandage if damaged and start the cleaning process immediately.

  • If bandaged with plastic wrap, remove the bandage after 24 hours and begin the cleaning process.

  • Aftercare cleaning process is as follows: Remove bandage- use water and antibacterial soap to lather and rinse the surface of your fresh tattoo. There is no need to scrub hard, just use your fingers and lather the soap and water in a circular motion making sure to remove any bodily fluids, crust, or debris. Once your tattoo is sanitized and rinsed, allow it to air dry or pat it dry with a clean towel or paper towel- do NOT use any dirty cloths or towels to dry your fresh tattoo as this is cross contamination. After your tattoo has been cleaned and properly dried, apply a thin layer of Aquaphor to the surface of your skin on the fresh tattoo- the ideal amount is a small amount just to give coverage and to keep the tattoo from drying out and creating huge scabs.

  • Repeat this process multiple times a day every day until your tattoo is healed. Healing time takes anywhere from 1-3 weeks depending on the person. There is no right number of times a day to clean your tattoo, but you should be doing it at least twice a day. If you have a very demanding lifestyle and your fresh tattoo is made vulnerable because of it, prioritize cleaning and moisturizing your fresh tattoo until it is fully healed over.
